Rachel Manton

Having grown up on a family farm, I have always been surrounded by animals and developed a strong interest in animal care and anatomy from a young age. Being involved in caring for animals raised for food also sparked a passion for production animal medicine, and I developed an interest in helping people better understand where their food comes from.

During veterinary school, lectures on poultry medicine particularly captured my interest, highlighting the scale of the industry and the important role it plays in providing protein for the population. I was drawn to the variety of opportunities within poultry medicine and the potential to make a meaningful difference to the health and welfare of the birds.

I particularly enjoy building strong relationships with clients and working collaboratively to improve flock health and welfare. Coming from a farming background, I also have a personal interest in game birds and enjoy the variety this area brings to poultry veterinary medicine.

One of the things that attracted me to St David’s was the emphasis placed on developing long-term client relationships, alongside the way the team works collaboratively across the country to support the poultry industry as a whole. I also value the friendly and supportive environment within the team.

I look forward to working with clients across all sectors to maintain and improve the health and welfare of birds.

Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the countryside on walks with my four dogs, and I’m working towards growing a herd of rare-breed British White cattle. I am also involved in social events with my Young Farmers Club and enjoy paddleboarding during the warmer months whenever I get the chance.
