Poultry Veterinary Services
St David’s Poultry Team offers a complete poultry veterinary service to commercial egg laying companies, the broiler industry, broiler breeder companies and hatcheries. We are the largest independent poultry practice in the UK and Ireland with 25 veterinary surgeons and 9 field services personnel. Our team of veterinary surgeons have over 150 years of poultry veterinary experience between then.
Head office is near Exeter, Devon, though we have national coverage, operating out of 14 additional regional bases across the UK and Ireland. These practice bases are located at Bampton, Fonthill, Wem, Leominster, Northleach, Northallerton, Penrith, Midlothian, Newark, Cambridge, Ballymena, Dungannon, Monaghan and Newcastle West. Our focus is to provide a hands on approach, working with all sections of the industry to improve health, welfare and performance of the birds under our care. We pride ourselves on providing a service built on integrity, whilst also striving to be at the forefront of developing innovative solutions to challenges faced in modern poultry production. This is reflected in recent years through the development of sensor technology and data analytics platforms to monitor animal health and performance; and Applied Bacterial Control, a concept and company, that focuses on providing novel solutions that enables clients to monitor and reduce the use of antibiotics in poultry production.
Our large team of poultry vets and field services personnel allows for a local and responsive service, but also enables our team to draw on the expertise across our network of vets, to collectively offer the best and latest veterinary advice. We value the importance of professional development and training to ensure high standards of service across the business.
We were the first poultry practice to set up an internship programme and work closely with the universities to encourage young vets into the industry. As a vet owned company, we believe that our independence allows colleagues moving through the business opportunity to gain responsibility on various projects and/or ownership if suits. We hope that ultimately this enables us to build stronger partnerships with our clients.
Our satellite practice in Ireland is licensed by the Irish Veterinary Council and is the largest poultry practice in Ireland. Our practice based in Edinburgh works closely with its neighbours, Moredun and Lasswade, to provide a comprehensive poultry and laboratory service.
We have an internal laboratory can carry out bacteriology, water, worm egg and dipslide testing. Many of our practice bases can also carry out this testing to ensure efficient reporting and response. We also work closely with external laboratories to carry out serology testing.
Medicines are usually supplied from the Dispensary which is also a licensed wholesaler, however the regional areas do hold some supplies of medication and vaccine as required.
