Team success at The British Veterinary Poultry Association Spring meeting

It was a busy couple of days for some of our vet team at the recent BVPA spring meeting in Harrogate where the focus was on ‘Poultry Management Innovation’.

Vet Nathan Hiom was presented with the Cliff Stuart Prize – an award that is given for the best practitioner presentation given the previous year.

Nathan presented at the winter meeting, sharing information on pheasant diagnostics. This included a broad review, including thoughts on the requirement for a change in approach with the new research available.

Clinical Director Richard Jackson received the President’s Quach that is awarded by the current President, in recognition of Richard’s contributions to the Poultry Sector.

As past president of the organisation, Richard is still an officer of the BVPA in the role of Senior Vice President.

Vet Dana Simpson was elected to the BVPA committee.

Dana said “I am honoured and excited to have been accepted as a new member of the BVPA committee at the recent BVPA spring meeting in Harrogate.

“I am looking forward to working with all the fantastic committee members who work tirelessly to support and positively influence the poultry sector.

Thank you very much for all who voted.”

Three clinical talks were also delivered by the team.

Vet Esme Chapman presented on Adenoviral disease in poultry and said, “It was an incredible experience to share insights of a case and engage with such a knowledgeable audience.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the thought-provoking talks delivered by fellow speakers focusing on advancements in artificial intelligence, data-driven solutions, and sustainability in the poultry sector.”

Dr Dana Simpson presented at the meeting, talking about acute liver failure in laying hens as did vet Ben South on neurological signs in layers.

Congratulations to Nathan, Richard, Dana, Esme and Ben and we wish Dana well as she embarks on her first few weeks on the committee.
