As you may all be aware Barrie Fleming has now left St David’s Poultry team. Taking over from Barrie will be Helen Errington BVMS Cert SHP MRCVS whom I am sure that you all know. Helen has been with St Davids’ Poultry Team since May 2010. Helen graduated from Glasgow University in 1991. Whilst she was a student, she worked on a Grandparent broiler breeder farm. After her graduation and 7 years working in a mixed practice she worked at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) in Thirsk for several years. Here she was involved with production animal pathology and disease investigation and played a part in the Louping Ill control programme on the North York Moors. Whilst working at the AHVLA she was a member of the UK avian expert group and project lead for poultry compartments for GB. She has a special interest in grouse disease being involved in research into ‘bulgy eye’.
Helen is now based in Cumbria working at the Cumbrian base of St David’s Poultry Team alongside our Field Service Manager Ian Bellamy.
Also joining the team will be Catriona Gaudie. Catriona graduated from Glasgow University in 1992 then came to do a 6 week locum in mixed practise in Northallerton, North Yorkshire which ended up being 6 and a half years. Whilst in mixed practise she developed an interest in pigs which eventually lead to her working for the Veterinary Laboratories Agency in Thirsk. She joined this government department in 1999 and remained there until the present time. Catriona trained in general farm animal, avian and wild life pathology and also became a member of the pig expert group within the agency and also trained in histopathology, latterly concentrating more in this area of disease diagnosis.
