Disease Update 23/12/15: Avian Influenza in France

Please see below the latest AI situation in France – with thanks to BEIC. Any questions regarding this information, please contact Richard Turner.

At the end of last week the French Ministry of Agriculture announced 12 new cases. Yesterday, the Ministry gave an update on the situation and declared another 11 new cases. This means that the total number of outbreaks is now 53.

Please note that the latest cases are all related to monitoring prior to slaughter. The region where AI is now concentrated is the region of Foi gras production, with production being concentrated at Christmas time.

Monitoring of bird migratory routes has shown that there is currently no migration from the south to north. However, AI appears to be spreading, which puts the poultry sector at an increased risk. It is therefore vital that everyone continues to exercise high standards of biosecurity.
