Sam Morgan

BSc MVDr MRCVS

Sam is part of our West of England and Wales regional veterinary team and is predominantly based at our Herefordshire office.

Sam says:

“I was lucky enough to grow up in Devon and had the opportunity to work on and experience many different farm settings, as well as to get work experience in a poultry vet practice, which reinforced my passion for a career in veterinary medicine. After completing my BioVeterinary degree at the Royal Veterinary College and subsequent Veterinary degree in Slovakia, I returned to the UK and joined a practice that specialised in farm and poultry medicine.

I’ve always enjoyed having the opportunity to grow and learn as my career’s progressed and focussing on the poultry and game sector really appealed, as it’s an industry that is continually innovating. Joining the St David’s team gave me the fresh challenge I was looking for.

I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of poultry medicine although I’ve developed a particular interest for the game side of the industry, which is what I now tend to focus on however there are many parallels between the two. For example, effectively managing the microbiome is a priority for both, and I’m passionate about the way changes in the approach to husbandry and gut health, can contribute to better animal welfare.

Of course, this supports the overall drive to reduce the use of antibiotics across the board. There have been vast improvements and progress in recent years, however there is still some way to go, and it’s encouraging that we’re continuing to develop new approaches to rearing and other interventions that mean we don’t have to rely on the use of antibiotics.”
