Archie says:
“I grew up around poultry and game with my parents owning a free range laying unit, so I’ve been in and around the industry for most of my life.
I studied Game and Wildlife Management at Sparsholt college in Hampshire and then moved in to game keeping for a number of years before returning to the family farm to run the cattle and poultry business. For the past five years I have been working in London managing a conservation grazing heard in the Epping Forest.
Having an insider’s knowledge of the business was helpful when deciding to make the move! The passion for innovation shone clearly when in talks with Richard Turner and the prospect of new challenges excited me.
For me it is clear that it has been very easy to forget the basics in all areas of animal agriculture. I think a lot can be achieved by starting with a clean and hospitable environment with the right diet and good clean water.
I believe the fundamentals are shifting with a grater emphasis on disease prevention, through enhancing husbandry care and biosecurity on farm. I see our practical knowledge within the field services team as a link between the expert knowledge possessed by our vets and our clients in the field.”
