| | The business supplies services to Commercial egg laying companies and farms, the Broiler Industry, Broiler Breeder Companies, Hatcheries and Game bird customers. We supply services to farms in all parts of the UK and Eire as well as acting on a Consultancy basis for businesses in France, Spain, Italy, Eastern Europe and the USA. We strongly believe in independence and are not tied to any particular pharmaceutical Company. This allows us to choose the best possible therapeutic product for the customer. We have developed a “hands on” approach with farm visits being the core of our activity. We believe that it is only through visiting the farm that we can give the best advice and help reduce costs in the long term. The business concentrates mainly on preventive strategies carrying out routine post mortem examinations which are followed up with preventive advice. We have basic laboratory facilities at the Practice that allow us to carry out some bacteriology. However it is our ethos that we outsource as much specialist testing as possible and we use up to twelve specialist laboratories that we believe give us the best results.

The Poultry team has for a long time supplied Veterinary services to the Independent grower as well as the Integrator. The business has in the past had a great deal of exposure to Food Hygiene Consultancy and has supplied a high level service linking production difficulties to factory rejects. The business has been proudly associated with the development of organic and free range broiler systems with producers and integrators who lead the Country in this specialist sector. We also supply veterinary advice to some of the large Integrators as well as the majority of Independent poultry broiler farms. Our Independence from any individual Pharmaceutical Company allows us choice in the selection of the best possible program for an individual farmer. In many cases we feel “blanket medication” is both wasteful in cost and unnecessary where a specific farm based veterinary plan would tackle site disease in the most effective and cheapest way.

The Practice supplies preventive veterinary work to many of the key laying units in the United Kingdom. Over recent years in conjunction with our chosen serology laboratory we have set up a simple system of blood storage to create a serum bank. Should a unit show production problems in a cycle, previously collected bloods can be tested to demonstrate titre levels for any given disease. Together with the pullet rearer, we aim to tailor vaccination programs to suit the laying farms unique disease profile thus hopefully preventing production problems and reducing the need to use antibiotics.

Alongside this information we are then able to survey disease prevalence by geography, production type, time of year etc. In this way the information can be used to predict patterns and give our customers the best possible advice. There is an E. mail facility to alert customers of current disease issues including Notifiable Diseases. The business has moved from a “Fire Brigade” reactionary service to a preventive service encompassing surveillance of disease nationally through our customer base.
