Our poultry team provides veterinary care to a substantial proportion of the UK’s broiler industry and the majority of the birds in Ireland are under our care. We work with all sections of the industry to improve the health, welfare and performance of our broilers.
We pride ourselves on providing clients with an on-farm service and providing practical, innovative solutions to challenges faced in modern broiler production. We offer an extensive range of in-house testing: serology, PCR testing and bacteriology. Clients can access laboratory results and water prescriptions through our secure online database. We use a MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) testing machine to determine the minimum effective concentration of an antimicrobial required to treat given bacterial isolates.
As a forward thinking team, we have developed the ABC (Applied Bacterial Control) concept to provide a holistic set of solutions that are tailored to individual farms. Our research into alternatives to antimicrobials has allowed us to provide our client base with a range of essential oils, probiotics and organic acids aimed at improving bird health. Part of this concept has been the development of Seed,Feed,Weed with Professor Steve Collett.
In order to deliver bespoke solutions to our clients we believe in regular site visits at an affordable price. Farm visits by both vets and fieldsman are provided depending on the disease or production issue. The use of in-house fieldsman reduces costs should a vet not be required or requested, for example blood sampling. We provide this service through our extensive network of branches throughout the UK and Ireland.
Our vets work with the retailers to ensure that the production chain is coherent and that all areas of the supply chain understand the needs and challenges faced by the other parts.
The veterinary surgeons are widely experienced in all aspects of the poultry industry, but it is the personal on farm service provided to all farms whatever size, that defines the high standards of St David’s Poultry Team.
I changed to St David’s Poultry Team back in 2012 when it was clear I needed a more hands on veterinary service . I first started with Richard Turner as my vet, but now with Suzy living locally this is very convenient. My results have significantly improved since leaving my last vets, and disease is now under control. Suzy visits about 3 times per crop, and St David’s have an excellent low visit charge to make this economical. At the same time I am pleased with their prices for medicines and vaccines which are very competitive. With a base near Shrewsbury, and the convenience of both a vet and fieldsman living locally, having St David’s look after my broiler unit is an obvious choice.
