Margaret graduated from The Royal Veterinary College London in 1988. After this she spent her time working in a mixed practice for 15 years. Situated in the centre of Northern Ireland’s chicken producing region she developed an interest in poultry and completed a diploma in Poultry Science at the Scottish Agricultural College.

In 2004, Margaret established the poultry practice in Northern Ireland which cared for all bird species. Then, in 2009 she joined St David’s Poultry Team and is currently responsible for the health and welfare of birds for a large Irish food producer, so has gained in depth experience with grandparent and parent stock birds.

She is a representative for the breeder, meat and layer sectors of the Northern Ireland industry on the advisory groups which liaise with the government on disease, welfare and contingency planning issues.

Margaret has also been instrumental in the inclusion and design of poultry specific education within University College Dublin, also helping to deliver this to the wider industry.

In 2022, Margaret was awarded an MBE for her services to the Northern Ireland poultry industry.
